Delivering breakthrough performance in every major metric

Industry: Manufacturing
Company: FORTUNE 500 global manufacturer
Executive: CEO
Team: CEO leadership team, business and functional unit heads and extended leadership
teams

Situation

The enterprise had grown by acquisition over a period of 60 years and was comprised of
27 autonomous business units. The CEO wanted to meld the organization into a single entity
aligned around a common future. He partnered with Gap International to develop a strategy
for extraordinary performance and an enterprise-wide structure to fulfill it, beginning
the work with the senior leadership team and extending it into various business units.
Gap International's methodology for causing new thinking and extraordinary performance
was introduced by Gap consultants and company executives to thousands of employees in cross-functional
teams within the corporation in sessions of 100 people each. The teams included senior executives,
plant leaders, machine operators and union officials who were able to open their minds to
one another, let go of mental blocks that hampered performance, and create plans and actions
that made an immediate difference in the business. The sessions were supplemented by individual
and team coaching to establish a mindset for exceptional performance over time.
The business delivered its best performance in five years in nearly every metric.
